Kairos – Is the prison ministry that is internationally known as the closest resemblance to the intended church. It is a powerful ministry that serves to provide the understanding of Jesus to the incarcerated. Twice a year a team of sixty-five comes to use our buildings while they minister the gospel to the Brothers in White.
This intense five days is made up of two teams that share a common goal. The outside team serves to prepare meals, agape (posters, letters and other mementos of love), prayer support, and encouragement. The inside team is made up of twenty-three individuals who are assigned specific brothers in white as their partners for the weekend, share testimony through scripted talks, and deliver the food and agape prepared by the outside team.
I have been blessed to be on the outside team once and the inside team twice. There are no words to describe what takes place on one of these weekends. All I can say is this ministry is very worthy of our full attention as it takes the love of Jesus beyond the walls and barriers of separation to the hardened hearts of those incarcerated. I have been blessed both times to be able to lead a Brother in White to Jesus. One of those brothers has spent over twenty years in prison. He has since become very involved in a daily Bible study and has made plans to become a missionary upon his release.
How can you help?
A) Be a Volunteer. Team members are people just like you. They are willing to take a week of vacation from their jobs and serve in this endeavor. You might want to volunteer? Kairos is international and is performed in eighty percent of the prisons in
B) Bake Cookies. Every Kairos weekend requires 60,000 cookies. Each cookie is homemade, exacting in size and ingredients. This requires a lot of individual care and love. We need cookie bakers all the time.
C) Give Generously. Every Kairos weekends costs and average of fifteen-thousand dollars. This is for meals, lodging, and building expense for the five days. If you would like to donate to this organization please make your check payable to Kairos.
D) Write Letters. Every participant in a Kairos weekend is given the responsibility of hand writing 43 personal letters of encouragement to the brothers in white. This is a powerful instrument that requires a great deal of dedication and love. You can’t imagine the reward of opening a letter from someone you don’t know that really does want to encourage you and love you. These brothers in white are truly broken when they each get a bag full of these personal letters of encouragement.
E) Prayer is Essential. One of the most exciting times during the Kairos weekend is when a paper chain with links made up of the first names of people who are praying is brought in and wrapped around these Brothers in White. I have witnessed grown men in tears as they realize the pervading love of the Holy Spirit through those who have prayed.
If you feel led in anyway to be part of the prison ministry please contact me with your pledge of commitment so that I will be encouraged in my walk.
Matthew 25:36, “I was in prison and you visited me.”
