English as a Second Language
Leader: Michelle & James Hoyt

Last year we made a conscience decision to find out how we might get involved in ministry to the Hispanic peoples in our city. It was apparent the need to meet these peoples existed and we had an obligation to share Jesus’ love with them. Knowing the need existed wasn’t enough, we also needed to know how to accommodate the need. We didn’t really have anyone that spoke fluent Spanish, but as it turned out it wasn’t important that we did.

Dallas Baptist Association was instrumental in training and encouraging us in this endeavor and without them I don’t think this ministry would have been possible. Jana Jackson of the DBA has given us access to a ministry that is both rewarding and beneficial to the body.

Michelle and James Hoyt do a fantastic job of instructing the class. Their heart for what started as simply a one-hour a week Wednesday night class has now blossomed to a full ESL Sunday School program. The children of those in adults in ESL training are participating in our regular RA and GA classes on Wednesday evenings and going to regular Sunday School classes on Sunday.

Since we began this program we have seen an average of thirty people each week in the program.   I don’t know of many programs evangelistic or other that will cause that type of positive growth. I am very thankful for Michelle and James Hoyt and all those who help to support this ministry. Thanks also goes out to Sherry Fuentes has been very helpful with those children in the nursery during ESL on Wednesday evenings.

ESL MEETS 7:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday and 9:45 – 11:00 am Sunday mornings

How can you help?

1)      Pray -Pray that those participants in the program would be receptive to the Word of God even as they are the English Language. Pray also for Michelle, James, Sherry and others who serve to support that ministry.

2)      Donate – Michelle and James have been providing for all the classroom needs, as well as giving candy as rewards for positive involvement, while they would never ask it might be helpful if funds were provided to meet that need.

3)      Volunteer – You might want to be a volunteer in helping with the children in the nursery. Volunteers are always needed.
